What stories will the lost souls whisper to you on the night?

Pick up your lantern and explore the site by dark on your 90 minute tour as we tell you tales of the convicts and prisoners who have walked this space for nearly two hundred years.

Will you experience first hand one of the ghosts of the thirty-two people executed on site?

Originating as the barracks for convict prisoners this space saw the passing of over 50,000 male convicts.

Adapted to use as a prison in the 1850's, the site was renamed Hobart Goal and sections of the chapel were converted into two courtrooms connected by underground tunnels.

It was at this time the Hobart Town gallows were relocated to this site with thirty-two people executed at the site between 1857 and 1946.

Some 300 to 400 men had been executed at the gallows on their original site in central Hobart the three beams of which reside in the Gallows on site today.
